Q. Is there any charge for membership of About My Age?
No, membership is free.
Q. I can't find my homepage/profile page
On the purple headings along the top of the page, put your cursor over "About Me". It will turn green and a drop down menu will appear. Ignore the drop down menu (for now) and just click on the "About Me" in green.
That will take you to your homepage/profile page
Q. Who can see my profile
Only members can see your profile. That way they can see if you share similar interests and they can invite you to be a friend. If you go to Update Account Details you can choose whether you want to be included in the search facility. If you choose not to be included in the search facility, then only friends that you have added can see your profile page.
Q. Should I use my real name in my public profile?
It's up to you whether you use your real name or an alias in your profile. However, if you don't use your real name it will make it difficult for others to find you. Your real name and your username can be different, but either can be searched.
Q. How do I upload a photo or picture?
Go to Update Profile on the left hand side in red.
Your profile picture can be a photograph of you, or anything else you feel represents your personality.
You can click the image to delete it (don't worry, you will be asked for confirmation first), or to upload a replacement image, click the Browse button to locate a file on your hard drive.
You can upload any suitable JPEG file (i.e. one whose extension is '.jpg' and whose file size is less than 2Mb) and it will be automatically resized and saved to the server.
Please remember any images you upload must not be copyrighted or offensive to other members.
Q. How do I resize a photograph for my profile?
You don't need to resize your photograph, unless it is larger than 2Mb, as the server will do that for you automatically. If it's larger than 2Mb then you'll need a program like Microsoft Paint or Adobe Photoshop. There are also often programs included with digital cameras that will allow photo editing.
Q. How can I read the other members' profiles?
To Find New Friends and invite people to be friends please go to the purple heading "My Friends", then in the green drop down menu click on "Find New Friends". You will be taken to a search page. Just click on the little blue arrow next to State and click on your State, then click on the "Search button. All the members in the state you have selected (who have a Public Profile) will show up in alphabetical order.
Click on the red writing "Go to Home Page" in each members box and it will take you to their profile, or click on the red writing "Invite to be Friends".
Q. How do I find a friend?
In the purple headings at the top go to "My Friends". In the drop down green menu click on "Find New Friends". You will be taken to a "Search" page. If you don't know any names, simply click on the drop down menu for State, choose a State and then click on the Search button. It will take you to a list of every member in that state who has chosen to make their profile public. You can then browse each member and click on their profile to see if you want to add them as a friend.
Q. I added someone as a friend accidentally. How do I take them off my friends list?
Go to My Friends in the purple heading at the top. On the drop down menu, go to All my Friends. Next to your friends list you will see Remove from friends list. Click on that and they will no longer be able to see your profile or contact you.
Q. How do I start an Interest Group?
Go to the Purple heading "Things to Do", then on the green drop down menu, click on "Interest Groups". Where it says "feel free to start one of your own" at the top click on the red writing "start one". Then simply type in the name of your Group and a few details about it and you have an Interest Group.
Q. How do I start a Discussion?
Go to the Purple heading "Things to Do". On the green drop down menu click on "Discussions". At the top of the page it asks if you would like to "start a new discussion". Click on the red writing "new discussion" Then fill out the Title of the Discussion and write whatever you want in the box below. You have now started a Discussion Group.
Q. How do I change my Profile or Account details?
Go to Update Account Details or Update Profile (whichever one you want) on the left hand side in red and you can add or delete as you wish. Please Note: You cannot change your Username.
Once you have checked your changes remember to click on the Update button at the bottom.
Q. How do I change my email address?
Go to Update Account Details in red writing on the left and enter your new email address. Remember to click on Update Account at the bottom when you have finished.
Q. How do I change my password?
Go to Update Account Details in red writing on the left hand side. Scroll down to Change Password? Make your changes and remember to click on Update Account at the bottom once you have finished.
Q. How do I get out of here?
When you want to leave the site, go to Home in purple at the top. In the drop down menu it will say Logout. Click on that.
Alternatively, there is Logout in red on the left hand side under the Heading Members
